Program: meditation space
Residence Wu is a meditation space, in which the architect tried to deliver a sense of restrain and modernity to intertwine with the Eastern flavor of the architecture. We believe that simplicity, the essence of traditional culture as well as a clear symbol of modern civilization, is exactly what we look for to represent the atmosphere of the space.
Existing program has been greatly changed according to the need of functions. The kitchen was moved to the basement as part of the sunken courtyard. The architect also chose to re-cast the enclosing walls in dry concrete. Different materials were matched together to imply a conversation of time. For example the contrast between wood and white self-leveling floor, between white sand and concrete and between old stone panels and stainless steel. By using both natural and industrial materials, the architect questioned the relations between the old and new, the modern and tradition.
